1. Java and Mocha are named after the coffee growers who developed them.
During the 1600’s a Dutch farmer named Java started trading coffee under his surname. Mocha was developed in Yemen by a legendary coffee grower who went on to develop several other variety blends.
2. Coffee is actually a fruit.
While coffee looks like a bean, it derives from a red, cherry-like fruit. The coffee beans inside are actually seeds.
3. Approximately 150 million Americans drink 400 million cups of coffee per day.
That equates to more than 140 billion cups per year which makes the U.S. the leading consumer of coffee in the world.
4. Simply smelling coffee can wake you up.
A group of scientists reported that one can alter the activity of genes in the brain by simply inhaling the aroma of coffee, resulting in reducing the effects of sleep deprivation.
